In 1956, Egon and Laina Molbak opened a small wholesale nursery in Woodinville, Washington.
The plan was modest — grow a few plants and sell them to other nurseries. What happened over the next 67 years was something they hadn't envisioned: a backyard operation became a place families returned to each spring, the kind of place that smelled like soil and rain and possibility.
Molbak's grew because the people who worked there cared. They cared about the plants, their customers, the difference between selling a hydrangea and helping someone start a garden. The greenhouse expanded. The annual poinsettia displays became something people looked forward to. The rooms filled with tools and ceramics and the kind of goods that belong alongside plants — because gardening, done well, isn't just about plants it’s about nurturing your entire life.
When Molbak's closed in 2024, the loss was real for Woodinville, for Western Washington gardeners, for the family and employees. Now in 2026, we’re relaunching Molbak’s. It’s a continuation of the project Egon and Laina started, not a reinvention. Same family, same standards, same focus on tending both plants and an enjoyment of life. We're starting small — a considered shop of garden-loving goods, and a few new ways to help you in the garden, wherever you happen to be.
We would love to hear from you. Let us know what you think we should carry and how we show up. Friends like you have always made us who we are, so get in touch.
